Preservation Carpenter

       Share your abilities while preserving Kauai’s history and its historic sites that inspire respect, but require patience.  The Preservation Carpenter serves as a conservator focusing on preserving the original design and dimensions, with the intention of making repairs undiscernible.

       This full-time position offers excellent compensation based on museum industry standards, and a strong benefits package, which includes medical, dental, 401(k), and paid vacation, sick and holiday time.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Restore and maintain the buildings and collections with skilled craftsmanship while authentically preserving the sites.
• Accomplish chores that include, but are not limited to, carpentry, plumbing, painting, concrete work, and window repairs.
• The Preservation Carpenters are an active part of the overall exhibit and visitor experience, and providing additional security and monitoring for the collections, buildings and site.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Executive Director.

Qualifications

• Experience, patience, and understanding to work on authentic historic buildings.
• Have strong preservation carpentry skills or the willingness to learn them.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines, while understanding that priorities may change to attend to urgently needed repairs.
• Ability to work independently and accept supervision appropriately.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.

Groundskeeper

         Spend your days surrounded by the never-ending beauty of well preserved historic properties.  The history of Kauai is perpetuated at the different sites through guided tours and the authentically maintained collections, buildings and grounds.

        Groundkeepers serve as preservationist and care for the grounds using similar methods as those that were traditionally used in the past and are also an active part of the overall exhibit and visitor experience.

       This full-time position offers excellent compensation based on museum industry standards and a strong benefits package, which includes medical, dental, 401(k), and paid vacation, sick and holiday time.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Accomplish assignments received from the Grounds Supervisor.
• Be responsible and care many different types of plants and foliage.
• Accomplish chores that include, but are not limited to, raking, watering, weeding, planting, pruning, fencing, clearing overgrowth, cleaning, mopping, and harvesting of produce.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Executive Director.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of proper care of plants and grass.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and accept supervision appropriately.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
