HISTORIC TRAIN COLLECTION

Grove Farm started using locomotives to haul cane in 1894 was the last plantation on Kauai to operate steam engines.

The museum in conjunction with Waioli Corporation is proud to preserve the largest collection of operating Kauai sugar plantation steam locomotives: Paulo (1887), Wainiha (1915), Kaipu (1925), Wahiawa (1921). All four plantation steam locomotives are listed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places. The historic train collection also incorporates a historic railroad right of-way and educational cane car experience.

SCHOOL FIELD TRIPS

We invite you and your students to take part in the educational opportunities that abound at Grove Farm Museum. The historic grounds, buildings, and the collections provide unique experiential learning for school tours and other educational groups.

We can assist you and your students in meeting curriculum requirements based on grade-level and learning benchmarks. School field trips can be tailored to the core content areas of English, language arts, mathematics, science, or social studies. Subjects of career, technical education, lifestyle skills, and fine arts are also possibilities.

In addition to field trips at the historic homestead, we can also arrange a ride on our restored sugar train along an authentic locomotive right-of-way. Learn more about the Cane Train Experience.
